China Mobile director Madam Li Mofang honoured by IET

A senior engineer has become only the second woman in China to be awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Madam Li Mofang receives the honour in recognition of her outstanding work in engineering, particularly in China and the world of mobile telecommunications.

The former chief technology officer of China Mobile, Madam Li is currently the director of China Mobile’s technical consulting committee.

“I would like to congratulate Madam Li on her Honorary Fellowship. Her contribution to mobile communications has been immense and her positive influence has made a difference across the world,” said IET president Dr Mike Short.

She became President of the GSM Asia-Pacific in 2001 and has also been honoured by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering in 2003 with the position of Foreign Fellow.

“I am deeply honored to be an Honorary Fellow of the IET. This is not only an award to me as an individual, but also an honor to the whole China’s Mobile and telecommunication industry,” said Li.

She formally received her Honorary Fellowship from IET president Dr Mike Short at the IET’s China Annual Dinner.

Madam Deng Nan, executive v-p and chief executive of CAST, is the only other female in China to have received an IET Honorary Fellowship.
